The Research Department of Microbiology was established in 2018 and is recognized for its research activities. At present, the Department has two approved Research Guides and five registered doctoral scholars pursuing research. The Department has successfully produced three Ph.D. graduates. Additionally, three research scholars have submitted their research findings and are awaiting for the viva voce examination.
Admission for Ph.D. programme can be made two times in a year, i.e., January and July. In the University of Madras website, the online application will be available during the months of December and June every year for admitting the candidates for two sessions. Candidates should submit the hard copy of their application on or before the first working day of January and July to the concerned University Department / Affiliated College/ Research Institution where the candidates proposed to do their Research. University offers two modes of Ph.D. programmes, namely, Ph.D. Full-Time and Ph.D. Part-Time. Candidates shall apply for admission to the Ph.D. Degree Programme in any one of these two modes.The applicant is advised to get the acceptance of a recognized Supervisor at the time of submitting the application. However, this does not ensure admission which is based on the merit list prepared taking into account of the performance in the entrance examination and marks obtained in the PG degree. Admission to the Ph.D. programme shall be completed at the earliest, preferably within 30 days from the last date for application in each session. Thereafter, the University shall ratify the admission and grant temporary registration for the Ph.D. candidate. Registration for Ph.D. must be completed within one month from the date of granting admission.
