The Intelligent Heart was an awareness seminar conducted for first-year students across the college as part of an Emotional Intelligence (EI) initiative. The session was facilitated by D3r Getsy Solomon and successfully reached an audience of over 300 students. The primary aim of the program was to help students understand the importance of emotions, mental well-being, and resilience as they begin their academic journey.

The seminar focused on building awareness around emotional intelligence, particularly emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal growth. Dr Solomon explained how understanding one’s own emotions is the first step toward managing reactions, reducing stress, and forming healthier relationships. The session highlighted how emotional intelligence plays a crucial role not only in academics but also in personal life, decision-making, and long-term well-being.

A key part of the discussion was centered on mental health and mindfulness. Students were encouraged to be more present, aware of their thoughts, and mindful of how emotions influence behaviour. Dr Solomon also spoke about dealing with failures, helping students view setbacks as learning experiences rather than obstacles. The concept of resilience was emphasized as an essential life skill that enables individuals to bounce back from challenges and continue moving forward with confidence.

The seminar was highly interactive and engaging. To help students feel more comfortable and open, Dr Solomon invited volunteers to come forward and dance, creating a relaxed and positive environment. This activity helped break inhibitions, encouraged self-expression, and allowed students to be more authentic and at ease. The interactive approach kept the audience actively involved throughout the session.

Towards the end of the seminar, a question-and-answer session was conducted, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and reflect on their own experiences. The responses provided practical insights and reinforced the relevance of emotional intelligence in everyday student life.

Overall, The Intelligent Heart seminar was a very encouraging and positive experience. It successfully created awareness about emotional intelligence, mental health, mindfulness, and resilience in a simple and relatable manner. The session left students feeling motivated, supported, and better equipped to manage their emotions and personal growth during their college journey.
