The program of “Threads of yesterday” was conducted by the department of psychology and was organised with the intention of raising awareness of the Alzheimer’s disease.

The program began with volunteers visiting the head of departments throughout the college with purple ribbons and greeting cards. The students asked the heads what they knew about Alzheimer’s as a disease and played a memory game in relation to facts about the college and its campus.

The program continued into engaging competitions and games focused on memory, such as “guess the song or tune”, “memory hunt” and “number chain recall” where students had the opportunity to participate and win chocolates. There were activities such as “lazy 8s”, “neck rolls”, “brain buttons”, and “finger aerobics” that were also conducted. These activities were focused on improving hand-eye coordination, concentration, alleviating tension, improving alertness, boosting blood flow to the brain and enhancing fine motor skills.

The main competitions began with all the participants assembling at CarpeDiem, where Ms Hemavathy introduced about Alzheimer’s and the way the competitions will be held. Each participant was provided with a card. They must participate in all 5 games, and after completing each game, they will receive a stamp on their card. Participants who collect all the stamps will be selected for the quiz round, where the winner will be chosen. The 5 games were inclusive of “Alphabet Backtrack”, “Colour Clash Challenge (Stroop Effect), “Memory Match Mania”, “Guess the Star’s childhood”, and “Campus memory quest”.

The agenda of the competition was as follows: It began with the Prelims round, where 4 memory-based activities were conducted, after which participants received stamps on their flashcard for each win, and those that had more than 3 stamps, qualified for the main round. The Main round consisted of challenging quests for the selected participants, and the winners of those quests were qualified for the final round. The final round consisted of an Alzheimer’s quiz (written, one-word answers) where Yogesh from III Bcom General, was selected as the final winner of the competition.
