
Mr R Sathish and Dr Sathish Kumar were warmly welcomed at the doorstep with a box “one chit, one truth- bust the myths, save a life” and then by the emcee Lavanya. The program proceeded in with a prayer and then continued with the welcome address delivered by Pravin K, along with Nagalikitha introducing the chief guests, by highlighting their achievements, and responsibilities. Mr R Sathish proceeded to address the gathering, where he spoke about Lifestyle and NCD Prevention. He discussed about poor dietary habits, sexual malpractice (infatuation, love), violence, aggression, heroic law breaking and attitude. The types of smoking, and the ingredients that it contains were defined. The mortality rates in India, upon the use of tobacco was discussed, whereas there are 9 Lakh Deaths Annually, while 2500 people die due to tobacco every day. Malignant transformation occurs in: Leukoplakia, Erythroplakia and Submucus Fibrosis. The types of cancer that comes from smoking tobacco was highlighted, where: Oral cavity (90%), Larynx (95%), Lungs (90%), while others include Pharynx, Oesophagus, Stomach, Pancreas, Colon, and many more. The signs and symptoms include unexplained weight loss, fever, fatigue, pain, skin changes, etc. If tobacco is consumed during pregnancy, the following effects could be face: Intrauterine Growth Retardation, Low Birth Weight Babies, and Repeated Abortions. He told the students about how when one tries to quit tobacco, they face withdrawal symptoms, which are commonly: Craving, Constipation, Irritability, Concentration, Memory and many more.
