The Department of Psychology, under the Unnal Mudiyum Program, organized a mental health awareness workshop titled “Therapy is a Tool: Breaking Stigma and Building Strength” for the students on 08-10-2025. The initiative aimed to promote mental health literacy, reduce stigma associated with psychological issues, and encourage students to build emotional resilience and seek help when needed.
In recent years, mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, academic stress, and social isolation have become increasingly common among youth. The program emphasized that acknowledging mental health concerns is not a sign of weakness but an act of strength and self-awareness. It provided a safe and open platform for discussion, reflection, and empowerment.
The resource person for the program was Ms. Srishakthi Venkataraman, Counselling Psychologist, Dhruti Trust. The program aimed at promoting emotional resilience, and encouraging help-seeking behavior among students. Students were actively engaged in identifying and challenging common myths such as “only weak people need counseling” or “mental illness is rare.” The facilitator encouraged open dialogue, enabling participants to share personal perspectives and experiences.
